Marvel Studios was the great absentee of the last Comic-Con of San Diego, a circumstance that Warner and DC took advantage of to present the trailers of ‘Shazam!‘ and ‘Aquaman’ . In Marvel they are not precisely with crossed arms, nor sleeping on their laurels: they released three films this year, they have two in the post-production phase, another in shooting and several projects to be announced.
The truth is that ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ has just arrived in theaters and perhaps it is too early to teach something of ‘Avengers 4‘, when it has not yet gone on sale ‘Infinity War’ in domestic format. And if they go to Comic-Con, it’s to win it. In any case, for whatever reason, they are protecting the secrecy surrounding the Avengers’ future and the fans are increasingly anxious to know what happens after the battle with Thanos.
There are still eight months to meet Captain Marvel, key in the fight against the Titán Loco, and the next adventure of the Avengers does not arrive until May 2019. In the absence of official images, posters and trailers, we can only calm the wait with confusing photos of the shoot, a brief synopsis and statements by the filmmakers. Joe Russo was in the Comic-Con to present the series ‘Deadly Class’ and could not avoid talking about ‘Avengers 4’.
“We’re very proud of her, I think that in the end, Avengers 4 may be our best work for Marvel, I think we’ve grown up with every movie we’ve made there, we’ve grown up with the characters, we’ve grown up with the actors. We are very happy and very excited about the movie.
“Over the years we have learned to listen, simply, to ourselves, and it’s great that there are two of us to be able to have conversations, we can be really isolated and reinforce each other in believing in the story we are telling. I feel that Avengers 4, as was done before there was no response to Avengers 3, is really pure in that aspect, the narrative is very pure.”
Recall that brothers Joe and Anthony Russo entered the Marvel Universe directing ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘, one of the favorite titles of the fans; his next works were ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ (in my opinion, the first masterpiece of Marvel Studios).
It is interesting that the director highlights the freedom and tranquility with which they have worked on his latest film, without taking into account the reactions of critics or fans. Maybe it will not end up being a better movie but it is always good news that the filmmakers can carry out their vision in the purest way possible, whether it is a low budget production or a blockbuster of superheroes. And yes, writing that, I’m thinking of Warner and ‘Justice League’…
On the other hand, Kevin Feige has also left some words about the fourth installment of the Avengers. According to the head of Marvel Studios, the film will be a “final” for the stories that have been created over a decade, since the MCU started with ‘Iron Man’ . Interestingly, the Russo brothers talked about ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ as a source of inspiration for ‘Infinity War’ and now Feige cites another title from the original Star Wars trilogy:
The best stories have their endings, the Return of the Jedi was an end for a long time and, being a 10 year old boy in 1983, that accompanied me until there was a sequel 30 years later. Something like this has not happened before in the genre of superheroes, a new actor arrives and a new story starts right away, we wanted to do it this way because we think that the best stories have a definitive ending, that is, what is going to happen next year with Avengers 4.
The universe, the world, many of the characters that we have introduced will continue in unexpected ways, some of which I do not even know yet, but to provide a definitive conclusion when reaching the 22nd film, and around ten years, it seems the decision correct.
I hope that Kevin Feige keeps his word and we see an authentic end to the MCU, it would be something different and special in the genre. But they surprised their statements because they are filming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ and want to continue the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchises (to see what happens without James Gunn), ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Doctor Strange’, among others . I suppose you’re only referring to the original Avengers …
