We are in an era in which the trend in Hollywood is the representation of trans characters in series and films… not without some controversy. Controversy that sometimes goes more for the fact that they do not have trans actors to interpret these papers (look what happened days ago with Scarlett Johansson).
Warner Bros and DC do not want to be left behind and have announced that the fourth season of ‘Supergirl’ will feature the first transgender superhero of television thanks to the signing of Nicole Maines. Maines will play Nia Nal / Dreamer, a character apparently based on Nura Nal, a precognitive superheroine member of the Legion of Superheroes.
In addition to the announcement of this signing, in the recent Comic-Con CW launched the trailer for season 4 of ‘Supergirl’, whose premiere is scheduled for October 14 (and on HBO Spain the next day ).
In the fourth season of ‘Supergirl’, Nia will be the latest addition to the CatCo team of journalists. In addition to Maines, the team of the series joins April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley and David Ajala as Manchester Black.
The truth is that I think an interesting signing, although the short curriculum of Maines (he has had an appearance in ‘Royal Paines’ and little else) does not make him very confident in his role. Nicole has been characterized as a strong activist of the trans community and appears in the HBO documentary ‘The trans list’.
Also noteworthy is the fact that they had to change the sexual identity of a minor heroine because of the lack of superheroes (and characters) trans in the comics. A pending issue of large publishers.
