We already discussed it in May. Microsoft would be preparing a cheaper Surface in order to try to attract a greater number of users. A movement similar to that Apple has made with the iPad trying to convince anyone who does not want to get an iPad Pro.
Since then we have never heard anything about it… until now. The reason is that a new portable device from Microsoft has been registered with the FCC (Commission of Communications of the USA), the previous step for the exit the market. Can it be the anteroom to know that expected “cheap” Surface?.
The Surface range does not stand out for being precisely cheap and although they offer specific discounts to encourage your purchase, its price does not favor the fact that many potential users choose to buy one and end up opting for a classic PC or even a cheaper tablet.
The attract these potential buyers would be one of the goals of the affordable Microsoft to launch Surface. A device that could be the one that has been registered with the FCC, a previous step that left us some data, few of them, that let us see some of its characteristics.
The most prominent refers to the charger. The new device includes a 24-watt charger. A fact that can be put in value if we think that the Surface Pro of 2017 includes a charger with a power of 36 watts. It also has a different battery, 7.66 volts versus a 7.5 volt battery in current generation devices.
This makes it almost completely ruled out that it is a smartphone. It does not have to be a Surface device, but it has all the looks. It also includes a WiFi / Bluetooth wireless communications module from Qualcomm, which indicates that the processor would not be from the same company, as it would be integrated into the SoC.
The cheapest Surface is expected to reach the market in the second half of 2018, with models that use 10-inch screens with more rounded edges, from 64 to 128 GB capacity, which offer more autonomy and all for a price of about 400 dollars.
