Just a few weeks ago, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 710. This device already we can see it in devices like the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE or the Vivo NEX, a terminal that will be presented today. But it is not the only surprise for the mid-range that the chip company had saved. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 has been leaked today to complete the manufacturer’s new 600 series. So far the most powerful of this line was the Snapdragon 660, a processor that we highly recommend given its power and efficiency. It is the chip that we want in all the midrange, although with the output of the 710 and 680 the thing could change and leave the current SD660 in the background.
We are seeing how Qualcomm is dangerously close to the high-end processors with other series like the 700. This is good, but it can also be very confusing for users and somewhat complicated for the market. Although we can not catalog the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE as a high-end mobile, the truth is that its behavior is very similar, both in fluidity and when opening applications. This makes the difference between the highest range and the immediately below range very slight when we talk about experience, not numbers.
The new Snapdragon 680 gives a new leap for the mid-range
We do not know to what extent this processor is necessary for the market, but it already seems a reality. It has been leaked in Geekbench with a quite remarkable score and with the name of Qualcomm Snapdragon 680. We did not know about him to date, but now that we know him, it is very likely that he will be announced shortly. We really know few details about this processor, but given its nomenclature will be located between the SD660 and the SD710.
It is a hexa-core processor, so it is the second chip of the 600 series to have 6 cores. Not all will work at once, but we only know that its maximum speed is 2.15 GHz. Most likely, 4 of these cores are activated for common tasks and the remaining 2 are in action when more power is needed. The testbed that has been leaked with this processor has 6 GB of RAM and Android 8.1 Oreo.
Knowing that the Snapdragon 660 is more than enough to run any game and application, this SD680 will have no problems with anything you can throw at it. Of course, for now it is a leak and we are waiting for Qualcomm to announce it. Although it is only a speculation, it could be the renewal of SD660 for 2019, although it has been leaked too early for this to end up happening.
