Google is doing very well with ChromeOS and the Pixelbooks in the educational segment. In fact, his good work has been one of the causes that have motivated some movements that we have seen in the market. This is the case of the launch of the iPad with support for Apple Pencil or the arrival of Windows 10 S (then Mode S) in Microsoft.

The teams of Google with ChromeOS are very attractive and there are many looks that focus on them. So much so that there are voices that talk about the possibility that those of Mountain View can allow the execution of Windows for PC in Pixelbook with ChromeOS. A hypothesis that gains force with new reports that come to light.

A by Microsoft users

The XDA partners have had access to this information and have done so based on the work of the ChromeOS developers. In the documentation they refer to AltOS , the system in which they have been working for time and they do it in parallel to the Windows Hardware Certification Kit (WHCK) and the Windows Hardware Lab Kit (HLK).

Apparently from Google could be testing in the Pixelbook hardware certification kit for Windows and HLK Windows Hardware Lab Kit. The objective would not be other than to achieve full compatibility of the equipment with ChromeOS to be able to use Windows.

Google teams, if everything comes to fruition, would have the certification to use Windows and support to access all the necessary drivers.

ChromeOS is more and more complete, since for some time it has been compatible with Android applications (apart from Chrome and Linux) in a way that greatly expands the options for users. Imagine also that now the owners of a Pixelbook could use applications designed for Windows. Both Google and Microsoft would win.

Huawei could present its alternative to the iPadPro in the MWC

However, it does not mean that we are going to see a Chromebook with Windows from the factory. An improvement of such caliber which would allow the user to have the option to install Windows 10 if he so wishes.

Recall that the Pixelbook is a computer that integrates a 12.3-inch screen. Inside it offers a seventh generation Intel Core processor with variants of 8 or 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. It also offers support for stylus so that it can be used as a laptop or tablet.
