Almost a year after the official launch of the latest version of Android, named Nougat, Google is preparing for the landing of the annual renewal of its operating system that is known as Android O.
The commercial name remains a mystery, and it will not be until autumn when it becomes official, but for now we have the first factory images of Android O where we find important news in the management of notifications, security, battery, gestures and the arrival of adaptive icons.
Doze, the third is the expired
Starting with the battery, we know that this has been one of the components that despite advancing does not seem to go along with other parts of smartphones such as the screen, camera, processors, etc. To try to help with this problem Android OR will bring about circumstantial improvements in the background processes where most of the applications usually consume battery in an important way.
A fundamental tool for this is Doze, which has been implemented since 2 versions on Android, or Android M or Marshmallow, and although it has been improving over time has not achieved the results expected by users, although we must recognize that it has managed to significantly improve the energy consumption of Google services compared to previous versions.
For Android O, Doze will perform a more intelligent analysis of the applications executed in the background and so you can decide which ones and which should not apply the closing or hibernation, as long as these do not put at risk the operation of our phone.
Notifications are not a problem in Android, in fact it is one of the things that Google does best with its operating system, however everything can improve, and that is what the Mountain View company has planned in this new version when launching the Notification channels.
Basically a channel of notifications gives developers the possibility to communicate a warning in different ways, either with a led notification, sound, etc. But the most important thing is that it will allow the user to select what they want and not want to be notified from each application, this is possible to do from some applications and the configuration is done in a general way, now in Android Or we can make the configuration for any application and we can set the parameters by time, place or situation.
The central issue of recent years has been security, especially now that the smartphone has taken a leading role in our lives and we used to take it practically everything in it, hence hacking it leads to great business and danger to our privacy .
Android O will have new APIs for auto-filling passwords, it may not seem like a big news, but most users use the same password for all their services as long as they do not have to remember one by one. Many others create very simple passwords to avoid facing the problem of forgetting, but now Google will allow services like LastPass to integrate better into Android for the self-refilling of passwords in applications and websites.
Adaptive icons and gestures
Surely the name “adaptive icons” has a lot of bombast, however, it is a simple and useful function for developers.
These icons will have the ability to adapt to different situations. To put a clear example, this type of icons we have already seen in Google Calendar, in this case we can see that the icon of the application changes day by day to place the day number of the month in which we go.
So now the different developers will have the opportunity to perform this type of action with the icons of their applications that can be adapted to the time, day, place, or action taken.
On the other hand, Google has decided to include gestures on the keyboard so that each developer can execute a particular task depending on the type of gesture that is established, so that instant messaging applications now have a sea of possibilities if they want to include new features. through the gestures from the keyboard.
These are some of the novelties with which the final version Android O will arrive, which has an estimated date of departure for the end of summer and the devices that can access this version first will be the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C , Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL.
If you have any of the aforementioned devices you can install the factory images from the official website, but remember that it is a developer version, so we do not recommend its installation if you are not one of them, at least not at the moment.
