All versions of Android start with the name of a candy and the letter of the alphabet. The point is that Google always plays the mouse and the cat with us and hides its name until the system version is mature. Finally the name and the biggest features of Android 9 have been made official: say hello to Android Pie (cake in English).
Unexpectedly, Google has released the official update of Android Pie to Google Pixel, Android One devices and phones that have been in the Open Beta program. Completely sporadically, the big G has brought the great update to a large number of devices and everything that comes with it. Let’s see it more closely.
Android 9.0 Pie is official: Android One is the great beneficiary
Google has launched the update almost massively. Why do we say this? Because the logical thing would be to think that this update that has risen so unexpectedly came mainly to the Google Pixel exclusively. This has not been the case, as both the Android One devices and the devices that have made use of the Android P beta program receive the update.
It is important to emphasize that it is not that the devices compatible with Android P betas will receive it, but all the phones that have participated in the Open Beta with a device on the list, such as some Xiaomi, the Essential Phone, the OnePlus 6 , OPPO, I live …
The update is done via OTA, although for now it is reserved for Pixel. If an Android One or a device that has been or is in the Open Beta program of Android P, check the updates from time to time and that will come gradually. If you are the owner of a Google Pixel 1 XL or a Google Pixel 2 XL, we leave you the update files to update it manually.
The phones that benefit from Android 9.0 Pie at the moment will have the main news of the system update. In the article that heads the post is better explained, and we leave the Android P label of The Free Android so that you get all the possible information beyond everything we will discuss in these lines. We are already installing Android P in our Google Pixel and compatible devices.
One of the biggest innovations of the update is Machine Learning. The system adapts its resources such as battery or brightness depending on your uses and learns from them to optimize these to the maximum and that you have just what you need at the right time. All this applies to all parts of the system, as seen in the recommendations of contacts and apps in the Google launcher.
Another of the great additions is Slices, which consists of giving you recommendations depending on what you are looking for. An example: if we search for “Spotify” Google will show us a series of actions directly in the search and results according to our uses. By the way, Slices is “pieces” in English. Good joke, Google.
And Google has adopted one of the great trends that started the iconic iPhone X: navigation by gestures. These gestures as we have explained will help us move in a more intuitive way throughout the interface by sliding buttons in the navigation bar, replacing the buttons. Our colleague Ivan already informed us, warning us of the possible death of the launchers.
Android One, Open Beta and Google Pixel, the winners of Android 9.0 Pie
It has been the family of devices hosted by the mantle of Google which has received Android 9.0 Pie. This is an official update, much earlier than the one anticipated by Evan Blass a few days ago. This is not any beta; Android 9.0 is here to stay. Of course, all devices will be updated to the August 2018 security patch.
All phones that have Android One will receive Android 9.0 Pie This includes the recent Xiaomi Mi A1 and Mi A2 / Mi A2 Lite, the entire Nokia family of new batch phones, the BQ Aquaris X2 and X2 Pro and others. If on your phone there is a silkscreen that puts Android One on the back, congratulations: you will soon receive Android Pie before the end of the year.
n the other hand, if you have been using a device that has been in the Open Beta program of Android P, in a few weeks you will receive an official OTA. Remember, it is not a beta, but an official and stable OTA. A reward to all those users who have given their day to day and stability in order to improve Android P in all its essence.
And also, if you have a Google Pixel of first or second generation, you will also be a graceful one. The phones made by Google could not be less and receive their cake ration. Special mention to that, possibly, Android P (under surprise) is the last great software update of the first generation Google Pixel.
By the way, note: the Easter egg of Android P, the one we saw a while ago is still the same: Psychedelic P. How good it would have been a nod to the cakes, although we can not complain: we already have the cake fresh out of the oven. Now it’s time to enjoy it.
